Hay fever, also called allergic rhinitis, usually worse between late March and September, especially when it's warm, humid and windy. This is when the pollen count is at its highest.

There's no way to avoid getting hay fever. If you have hay fever, the best thing to do is to lessen your exposure to the allergens that cause your symptoms.
Something you could do is wear a mask or glasses, make sure you shake pollen off your clothes when you return home, and brush your teeth, wash your face and blow your nose to reduce the amount of pollen on your body.

If the symptoms get worse, before going to see your doctor, you could visit your pharmacist and try to treat your hay fever symptoms with over-the-counter medications, such as antihistamines. Make an appointment to see your doctor if your symptoms don't improve after using antihistamines.
